I just got my new Felicity and Elizabeth yesterday. I have never owned American Girl dolls before, but I am hooked! Today I borrowed a 1992 Felicity from my granddaughter's school library to freshen up. She is very dusty and looks like her hair hasn't been combed in years! I was very surprised at the difference in weight between the two. The older doll is much heavier than the new one. It that the vinyl or what? The older one's hair is a much lighter shade too.

I bet it is the vinyl. I know that the vinyl used in the newer doll has a little more "give" to it. If you pinch a newer doll's leg or upper arm, it is less firm than the older dolls. I am not sure if it means the vinyl is a different kind, or just thinner now . . .either way, I have heard that the newer dolls are generally skinner, so maybe they lost some weight there too!

The older dolls tend to have waaay more stuffing than the new dolls, meaning the old ones are a bit chubbier.

The vinyl texture and hardness is different, too. I bet it's a combo of these two that makes up the weight difference!
